{"id":1317,"date":"2012-11-12T10:51:39","date_gmt":"2012-11-12T15:51:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ourwanderyears.com\/blog\/?p=1317"},"modified":"2012-11-12T10:51:39","modified_gmt":"2012-11-12T15:51:39","slug":"las-vegas-everything-else","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ourwanderyears.com\/blog\/2012\/11\/12\/las-vegas-everything-else\/","title":{"rendered":"Las Vegas: Everything else"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The four days in Vegas that we shared with Sybil were filled with a variety of activities, but eating was the focus:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Tuesday night, after collecting Sybil at the airport and getting her checked into both hotels, we had a late night dinner at <a title=\"Rock &amp; Rita's\" href=\"http:\/\/www.circuscircus.com\/dining\/rock-rita.aspx\">Rock &amp; Rita&#8217;s<\/a>, a barbeque restaurant at Circus Circus. I wasn&#8217;t hungry, but I did take one of their margaritas (ok, nothing special). And of course I had to eat the pulled pork sandwich that Jett couldn&#8217;t finish.<\/li>\n<li>For Wednesday lunch we dined at <a title=\"America\" href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorknewyork.com\/restaurants\/america.aspx\">American<\/a>, a deli-style restaurant in (where else?) the New York New York hotel\/casino. We chose this establishment because it offered breakfast all day, which is what Jett wanted.\u00a0 I had a very nice Reuben.\u00a0 We dined near a huge bas-relief sculpture of the continental US that hangs from the ceiling.\u00a0 It made us realize how far we have traveled &#8211; Massachusetts was waaaaaaaaaaaay over near the kitchen.<\/li>\n<li>Thursday evening, after basking in the sun for a while (and enduring the gusty breezes) we tested the dinner buffet at one of the Fremont St casinos &#8211; can&#8217;t remember which one.\u00a0 It was a very fine buffet for $15 each.\u00a0 Sybil liked the crab legs.\u00a0 We all had prime rib.\u00a0 Jett said their fried chicken was superb &#8211; a close second to the chicken we had at Dollywood earlier in the trip.<\/li>\n<li>Friday lunch was at the <a title=\"Bellagio buffet\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bellagio.com\/restaurants\/the-buffet.aspx\">Bellagio buffet<\/a>.\u00a0 This was simply stupendous.\u00a0 We stayed for two hours and sampled maybe 10% of the offerings.\u00a0 Their scallop ceviche was wonderful and the carved flank steak and turkey breast were both very nice.\u00a0 Jett gushed over the breakfast sausages.\u00a0 I really like the bread pudding and caramelized peaches that I chose for dessert.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Obviously, we didn&#8217;t starve.<\/p>\n<p>Another activity was gambling.\u00a0 As I noted earlier, we are not big-time gamblers, but we did our bit to keep Las Vegas afloat.\u00a0 But to illustrate how small-time we are, I offer this little anecdote.<\/p>\n<p>After putting $10 in a slot machine at the Wynn and losing half of it, I went to the cashier to redeem my $5 voucher.\u00a0 She looked at it, looked me straight in the eye and with a deadpan expression said &#8220;Would you like large?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>We also enjoyed the usual assortment of street performers.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1328\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a
