{"id":389,"date":"2012-02-25T22:37:44","date_gmt":"2012-02-26T03:37:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ourwanderyears.com\/blog\/?p=389"},"modified":"2012-09-09T14:07:26","modified_gmt":"2012-09-09T18:07:26","slug":"steering-the-enterprise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ourwanderyears.com\/blog\/2012\/02\/25\/steering-the-enterprise\/","title":{"rendered":"Steering the Enterprise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have now driven the GMC 3500 about 10 miles.\u00a0 Yes, I am easing into it.\u00a0 It will take some time to get used to driving it after 7 years behind the wheel of a compact car.\u00a0 This is very much NOT a compact car.\u00a0 Compact whale maybe.\u00a0 More like driving the <em>Enterprise<\/em>, really.\u00a0 Every time I turn into the driveway I feel like I am easing it up to a pier.\u00a0 I am tempted to tie it down when I exit the cab.<\/p>\n<p>I went to the gym today.\u00a0 The gym has a parking garage with relatively low (6&#8242; 10&#8243;) ceilings.\u00a0 I had to measure the truck to convince myself that it would fit (plenty of room &#8211; it is only about 6&#8242; 2&#8243;).\u00a0 But even then I wasn&#8217;t sure I could navigate it into a spot without help from those guys with orange flashlights who dock the 757&#8217;s.\u00a0 I found a space in the corner that I could fit into, so this particular trip was a success.\u00a0 But this will be an ongoing concern.\u00a0 Every time I enter a new parking garage I will have to reconnoiter first.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the first photo of the Beast in my driveway:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_390\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ourwanderyears.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/032.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-390\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-390\" title=\"032\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ourwanderyears.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/032-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ourwanderyears.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/032-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ourwanderyears.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/032-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.ourwanderyears.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/032-150x112.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.ourwanderyears.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/032-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-390\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Beast, Docked<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I was worried, driving it home from the dealership, that it wouldn&#8217;t fit in the driveway.  Well, it fits, but it is close.  I think we now have about a foot of wiggle room.
