The starting point for our trip west is Northwood, NH. Specifically, the <a title=\"Saddleback Campground\" href=\"http:\/\/www.saddlebackcampground.com\">Saddleback Campground<\/a> on Route 43 in Northwood, NH.\u00a0 We have spent most weekends since June in the campground &#8211; and have lived here full-time since September 1 &#8211; and have learned a little about the community.\u00a0 In our view, Northwood has three highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Saddleback Campground itself.\u00a0 It is small &#8211; just 20-something sites &#8211; and not a lot of amenities, but it has Les and Nancy Haskell and they are two of the nicest, most helpful campground hosts you will find anywhere.\u00a0 They kindly helped us find someone to haul the fiver onto the site and were very helpful in giving me some instructions on how to maneuver my rig in tight spots. They also had two fireworks shows during the summer which were very intimate &#8211; no need to fight the swarm of half-a-million souls on the Boston Esplanade to celebrate the 4th! And the end-of-summer adult party, featuring the <a title=\"Effengees\" href=\"http:\/\/www.effengees.com\/\">Effengees<\/a>, was a blast!\n<p><div id=\"attachment_663\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ourwanderyears.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/2012-09-16-035.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-663\" class=\"size-large wp-image-663\" title=\"2012-09-16 035\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ourwanderyears.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/2012-09-16-035-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Les and Nancy Haskell\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ourwanderyears.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/2012-09-16-035-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.ourwanderyears.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/2012-09-16-035-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ourwanderyears.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/2012-09-16-035-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.ourwanderyears.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/2012-09-16-035-400x266.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-663\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Les and Nancy Haskell<\/p><\/div><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Johnson's Seafood and Steak\" href=\"http:\/\/www.eatatjohnsons.com\/\">Johnson&#8217;s Seafood and Steak<\/a> &#8211; a fine restaurant, but an incredible ice cream shop. Their &#8220;small&#8221; serving of ice cream is HUGE and their &#8220;large&#8221; is ginormous.\u00a0 I ordered the large grapenut custard ice cream and had to take it back to the RV and put it into the freezer.\u00a0 Three sittings were needed to finish it.\u00a0 Unbelievable value! And very tasty, too.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Cooper Hill Pizzeria\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cooperhillpizza.com\/\">Cooper Hill Pizzeria <\/a>is a very fine local pub\/pizzeria\/restaurant. We had several dinners there &#8211; sandwiches, pasta and pizza &#8211; and were never disappointed. One Sunday breakfast, too.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Northwood also has Lucas Pond, where Jett&#8217;s sister has a cabin.\u00a0 That is the reason why we came to Northwood this summer.\u00a0 It is a great place, but it is private and I have described its beauty previously, so I won&#8217;t say any more about it.<\/p>\n<p>On to Warwick, MA!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our Great Trip West begins today!
